Swedish Vmaxmeet

Linköping 24-27/5 2001

The 3:rd annual Swedish Vmaxmeet was a very nice event. A total of 25 Maxii gathered at the sunny camping grounds in Glyttinge outside Linköping. The rally started Thursday evening as the first visitors made their thundering entrance. (Click thumbnails for larger images)

Jean-Luc rode all the way from Belgium (1400 km) and rose his tent with us for the third time. He was a bit unlucky in Germany and got a speeding ticket which lost him most of his cash. Fortunately they didn't take his license as they could have. A journalist from a Swedish bike-mag also arrived and started his Vmax article which hopefully will be printed later this summer.

Breakfast in the sun

Most participants arrived Friday morning. After getting the rally T-shirt and a nice lunch we all went to the Airforce museum in Malmslätt where we were treated to a guided tour through the history of aviation.

After the museum we rode to Vadstena for a cup of coffee in the sun. During the ride the journalist took some riding pictures for the article. We also went for a quick spin around town to let our V-fours rumble at Linköping's main square.

Back at the camp

Back at the camp the pub opened and the bbq was lit. Richard made hamburgers and hot-dogs for all of us. A bit later the live band started playing and a few "Travoltas" were outed ;-). The party continued until late.

Saturday started with breakfast in the sun and an informal discussion around club activities. After lunch we rode to Beviks, the local bike dealer, and everyone got nice scarves.

Half the crowd then went to the Sviestad race track to watch the Swedish roadracing championships. The other half went for a 200 km ride on winding back roads in the lovely Linköping countryside. Click here to watch Thomas do a burnout! (Mpeg movie 1,4 Mb)

Saturday night started with bbq and beer. A raffle was held with prizes from Uncle Festers and Yamaha Sweden. Later we looked at some videos shot by Vesa Salminen from this and previous rallies.

Sunday morning started with a visit from the local law enforcement. Someone (name withheld) was in a bit of hurry to the camping grounds, 120 kph in a 50 zone. The police car followed him all the way to our camp site, but when they got there they were so impressed by all the nice Vmaxii that they totally forgot about the ticket... "- Not many of you are running the original exhaust systems... but a bike like this is supposed to make a bit of noise" That cop ought to become an honorary member for his statement ;-)
The main tent was dismounted, the site and the cabins cleaned up, and the bikes packed. Everyone said their goodbyes and headed for home with a promise to meet again soon...

Kudos to: The organizing committee for a very nice event, Tommy for taking almost all the pictures, Vesa for filming the rally, Uncle Festers and Yamaha Motor Sweden for the raffle prizes, and to all participants who made this event a success and something to remember.
See you all next time!
