4:th Swedish Vmax Meet

Gothenburg
May 9-12
2002

This years Swedish Vmax Meet was held at Dalagärde hostel in Lillhagen just outside of Gothenburg. Madde and her crew of rally organisers had set up a full programme and everything went very nice and smoothly. It was a great weekend with lots of riding, good food, partying and mingling. This year also saw a record number of participants with Maxers from all over the country and also foreign visitors. Some had ridden all the way from Narvik (in Norway, north of the polar circle), Piteå in the north of Sweden, and Belgium. The gods were benign and the first day of the meet the weather turned and we got all sun and mid summer temperatures.

Most arrived Friday morning. Many old and new acquaintances to greet and Maxes to look at and talk about, everyone checking out each others winter mods. The Belgian guys made their entrance, more Maxers turned up, and at noon we lined up our bikes for the group ride.

Lining up for the ride

The Friday group ride went through winding countryside roads east of Gothenburg. We stopped at a lake and bbq'd hot dogs. After lunch we rode to the very interesting sportscar museum Auto Collection.

Back at the camp our chef for the evening was preparing dinner, and after a full day of riding the beer tasted great. While the BBQ aroma was lingering over the camp people were mingling and checking out all the bikes.

After dinner the party started. The band Frozen Souls entered the stage for a much appreciated gig. Spirits were high well into the wee hours...

The Saturday group ride gathered even more bikes and just like Friday we had a very well laid out route ahead. I'm guessing about 40-50 Maxers zooming around the country roads. An impressive sight and sound when riding in the back. The guides made a great job at holding the group together. The ride went to Marstrand, a small island in the archipelago where we parked our bikes and took the ferry over for sightseeing and lunch. Then we rode up north across the bridges to the islands of Tjörn and Orust. There we unfortunately caught a shower so we headed back to camp. The rain stopped as quickly as it came, the skies cleared up and soon the barbecues were lit.

Later that night Maddes band cAPS lOCK went on stage for some great entertainment. In between their sets it was time for the big raffle with lots of very nice prizes from Uncle Festers, Brummis - a Swedish Vmax vendor, and Yamaha Motor Sweden. The lottery numbers were found on the entrance cards which most wore around their necks. First prize went to Krister Lindström from Höllviken and second prize to Peter Apell from Lidköping who got to take their pick from all the goodies. Later we looked at a video from the days ride shot by Vesa Salminen.

Sunday morning the main tent was dismounted, the site cleaned up and the bikes packed. Everyone said their goodbyes headed back home, very happy and spoiled with an amazingly well organized and carried out event.
It was brilliant, if you were thinking about going but didn't you really missed something...

Kudos to:
- The organizing committee and all who worked hard during the event
- Uncle Festers, Brummis-Vmaxspecialisten and Yamaha Motor
Sweden who sponsored all the raffle prizes
- All Maxers who participated and made this event a success.

See you all next time!
